The promise of Advent, literally, the coming, the arrival of something important or awaited.
The first hymn we sang communicates just that anticipation.
We rejoice.
Come, thou long expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel's strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.
Born thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a King,
born to reign in us forever,
now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all sufficient merit,
raise us to thy glorious throne.
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel's strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.
Born thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a King,
born to reign in us forever,
now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all sufficient merit,
raise us to thy glorious throne.

Thankfully, you are home safely after a wonderful holiday! And that was the same first hymn we sang yesterday, along with "Come, You Thankful people, Come." We ARE thankful! Love you! XOXOXO
Advent? Advent? I don't think our church knows there's such a thing. I would have LOVED to sing advent songs yesterday...
We didn't even sing any "harvest" songs!!
I may just get our own advent wreath to do at home.
Nice reminder of what this season really is all about.
I'm so glad you want to play. I give you the letter X, just kidding!
I'll give you the letter "R."
