The Bottom Line

Thanks to Palm Tree Pundit for this link. I found it to be a worthwhile and issue clarifying read. Randy Alcorn highlights the thoughts that I have been ruminating over for a while. For me, this is the bottom line in determining how I will make my choice at the poll next month.

Here's something to think about. The parable or story about the two sons. One was told to do something and said yes, but didn't do it. The other said No, but later on did it. Sometimes I think the R. are the first lot. GW hasn't done a whole lot. Not that the D's are the second lot either! I'm just a little tired of hearing that the R.'s are the party of righteousness!!! Not that you're saying that.

Oh no! I am not at all saying that the R's have the corner on righteousness. Far from it! In his commentary on that parable in Matthew, Matthew Henry wrote, "And it often happens, that the daring rebel is brought to repentance and becomes the Lord's servant, while the formalist grows hardened in pride and enmity." Who knows? Maybe there is a parallel there... :-)

But in posting that article, I am saying that, on the issue of abortion, the candidates and the party platforms are distinctly different, and in the confusion of so much else, that remains clear to me. What really stands out to me are Obama's words to Planned Parenthood, "the first thing I'd do..." As Alcorn points out- he's either lying or "he's commiting himself to oppose the rights of unborn children to live." I know that others disagree- and I'm not really trying to persuade. I am just making a public commitment to my own beliefs.

Thanks for being iron and making me really think about it!

George Bush said he would work to have Roe vs Wade over turned. It's political lip service! McCain is doing the same exact thing.

My understanding is that McCain supports strict interpretation of the Constitution and therefore supports the overturn of Roe V. Wade in order to make it a states' rights issue.
The National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League(NARAL) states that in the 119 votes that McCain has cast "on abortion and other reproductive rights issues, 115 were anti-choice." In the record of his three years in the Senate, Sen. Obama has received a NARAL score of 100%. I believe that a voting record is more than mere lip service. In the speech before the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Obama said, "There will always be people, many of goodwill, who do not share my view on the issue of choice. On this fundamental issue, I will not yield..." Likewise, I'd say that there will always be people, many of goodwill, who do not share my view on the issue of life. On this fundamental issue, I will not yield...
